Dena Suzanne Van Anda Slade

Dena Suzanne Slade, age 55, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at her home in Provo, Utah.

She was born May 23, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, a daughter of Suzanne Van Anda and Larry Van Anda.

Dena moved to Utah with her mother, brother, and sister when she was a young teenager. She attended school at Provo High where she met Mike Westphal. They married and had two sons, Jake and Brandon. Dena raised her sons in the Orem, Utah, area. Dena lived with her current husband, Doug Slade, in Provo, Utah.

Dena was generous and had a compassionate heart. She lived for her children and grandchildren. They brought her the greatest joy. Animals of all kinds had a special place in her heart. She would often take in stray cats and dogs and care for them. Dena loved family time, especially during the holidays. She liked to prepare large meals and bring everyone together in her home. She always took the time to make sure her guests felt welcome.

Dena is survived by her husband, Doug Slade, of Provo, UT; son, Jake (Johana) Westphal, of Eagle Mountain, UT; mother, Suzanne Van Anda, of Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Rachel Van Anda, of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Eric (Pamela) Van Anda, of Amador City, CA; nephew, Chad Van Anda;

Also survived by grandchildren: Tyler, Cory, and Chase Westphal.

She is preceded in death by her father, Larry Van Anda; son, Brandon Scott Westphal; and grandmother, Nadine Rawson.

Visitation for family and friends will be at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah, on Friday, October 7, 2016, from Noon to 1:00 p.m.

Following the visitation, a graveside service, in Dena’s honor, will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Springville Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah.
